As a young man, Billy put his life on hold and volunteered to fight for our country in the U.S. Army in Vietnam. He was a sergeant with the High Point Police Department, a United States Border Patrol agent, and a special agent with the United States Treasury Department, Bureau of ATF, accepting numerous undercover assignments and going behind enemy lines against some of the most violent and dangerous criminal organizations throughout the United States.
He showcased his administrative talents when he was appointed project officer in ATF Bureau headquarters in Washington, D.C. He was given special trust and confidence in his integrity and abilities by ATF directors and succeeded in his position with extraordinary professionalism, contributing to the overall success of the United States Treasury Department, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms. He further demonstrated his leadership abilities as commander of ATF’s SRT Team 5, where he was responsible for all high-risk operations in the western part of the United States.
He is the recipient of three Medal of Valor awards, the Director’s Award from the U.S. Attorney General, the Meritorious Service Award from the United States Bar Association, the Legacy Award from the Southern California Gang Investigators Association, and nine Special Achievement Awards from the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.
He is recognized as one of the foremost experts in criminal gang activities and undercover operations and is a sought-after international speaker. He is a New York Times bestselling author and a commercial-rated pilot. He is multi-lingual and is recognized as a distinguished individual in the 2023 edition of Who’s Who in America.
